Change Media: peer-education in schools

We work with schools and educational institutions who are interested in peer-education and challenge-based learning through digital media. If you want your students to excel in cutting edge media analysis and content creation, while learning essential 21st Century skills, please email us.  We have worked with thousands of students in hundreds of schools across Australia.

Our school workshops are tailored to fit your curriculum and class schedules: we recommend our train-the-trainer model, where teachers work alongside students in small teams. Our head mentor and creative director, Jennifer Lyons-Reid, is a qualified teacher and certified training assessor.

Our peer-education methodology is challenge-based; students overcome obstacles by learning to problem-solve and find creative solution using a wide range of software and creative tools.

Our narrative approach is applicable across many curriculum strands, aas digital media is fast becoming a medium used in all aspects of professional and personal life. See below for more information on  cross-curriculum work.

Our courses can be scheduled as 2-hours, 1-day or weekly sessions. Change Media production offers in depth, hands-on training in selected aspects of production, with special focus on storyboards, digital media narratives, camera + sound techniques, non-linear editing, graphic effects, compositing, DVD authoring, podcasting and music production.

Outcome: Tailored hands-on training for either storyboard/ script work/ camera and sound work or intensive editing with the Final Cut Studio Suite  or iMovie. Other applications include Garageband, Soundtrack Pro, Motion, Photoshop, ComicLife and others. Ideal to get started with digital media projects or as an in depth master class to learn more about one specific skill area. We recommend to work on the Apple platform, but can also cater for other operating systems and software requirements.

The course is also available as a full-day self contained edit-in-camera film class, with a finished, edit-in-camera film on DVD as a direct outcome: Document an event, translate your idea to screen, make a TV ad or a community announcement in a day!

Once booked, your class will receive a FREE Directing the Hero Within DVD kit. Students are supported to form their ideas, build teams, create storyboards for their film, rehearse their stories, get hands-on training with sound and video equipment, delve into the wizardry of non-linear editing and DVD authoring or make a short film edit-in-camera. We will provide all equipment necessary: high quality video cameras, tripods, sound gear, video projector and G5 iMacs.

Estimate costs: Full day course $3500 [ex GST] + FREE Directing the Hero Within DVD kit valued at AU$199.  Please contact us  exact quotes and details for interstate / regional / remote location on-costs or special deals for weekly repeat sessions.
